Log any drink in seconds
62 built-in drinks, from espresso to boba, each with its own hydration, caffeine, alcohol and calorie numbers. Milk counts for more than water, wine counts for half, spirits count for nothing. Pick a drink, set the amount, done.
- Coffee and tea logged in shots and cups, not millilitres
- Daily goal from your weight, activity and climate
- Change any drink's numbers to match what you actually drink
Today's progress on your home and lock screen.
A daily total isn't enough. What counts is staying hydrated all day.
WaterChamp tracks a live hydration level that declines between drinks. Small amounts spread through the day hydrate better than one large amount, because the body clears the excess within a couple of hours.
See how hydrated you are
WaterChamp shows how hydrated you are at any moment, on a simple scale from Thirsty to Waterlogged. It also works out when you'll get thirsty next, so it can remind you to drink just before you run low instead of after you already feel it.
- A live reading, plus a forecast for the rest of the day
- It tells you the time you'll get thirsty, and reminds you before then
- The reading drops slower while you sleep, faster when you exercise
Steady intake is easier for your body to absorb than one large amount at once. Hydration guidance recommends spreading fluids through the day.
Know your last chance for coffee
Caffeine has a long half-life, so an afternoon cup can still be in your system at bedtime. WaterChamp estimates how much caffeine is in your body and how it fades by bedtime, then finds the latest time you can have an espresso and still sleep. It warns you just before that cutoff.
- See your caffeine rise and fade up to bedtime
- A daily caffeine budget
- Works for espresso, tea, cola and energy drinks
In one study, 400 mg of caffeine taken even 6 hours before bed cut total sleep time by more than an hour. WaterChamp does that math for you. Drake et al., J. Clinical Sleep Medicine, 2013.
Streaks that reward steady sipping
Every day you hit your goal fills a drop in the calendar and grows your streak. Alongside the streak, a check-in counter tracks how spread out your drinking was: two drinks only count twice if they were at least half an hour apart.
- Current and best streak, with daily check-ins
- Day recaps and lifetime trends

Your goal adjusts to your day
On active days you need more water, so WaterChamp reads the calories you burn and adds a millilitre of water per calorie. It uses your sleep so your hydration drops more slowly overnight, and writes your water and caffeine to Apple Health on iPhone, or Health Connect on Android.
- Extra hydration on the days you move more
- Water and caffeine written to Apple Health or Health Connect
- Alcohol written to Apple Health (iPhone only)
- Reads sleep and workouts, nothing uploaded to us
Create your own drinks
Not seeing your go-to? Build a custom beverage with its own caffeine, calories, alcohol and hydration factor, plus custom art and colour. It counts toward your hydration, caffeine and alcohol tracking just like the built-in drinks.
- Full nutrition: caffeine, calories, ABV, hydration factor
- Pick the container and the colour of the drink
- Set the serving size you actually pour

Common questions
Short answers about hydration, caffeine and what the app does.
Does coffee count toward my daily water intake?
Yes. Coffee is a mild diuretic, but a normal cup brings in more water than the extra urine it causes. Black coffee has a hydration factor of 1.00 in the app, so a 240 ml cup adds 240 ml to your goal. A latte counts 1.10, because your body keeps milk a little longer than plain water.
The app tracks the caffeine separately, on its own curve.
Does tea dehydrate you?
No. Black tea and green tea both have a hydration factor of 1.00, the same as water. A cup of tea also holds far less caffeine than a cup of coffee, so the fluid easily covers the small diuretic effect.
How much water should I drink per day?
It depends mostly on your body weight. WaterChamp starts at about 26 ml per kilogram, then adjusts for age, sex, activity level and climate. It adds more during pregnancy or breastfeeding. A 70 kg adult with an average day lands near 1,800 ml.
Work out your own number with the water intake calculator.
When should I stop drinking caffeine before bed?
It depends on how fast you clear caffeine. The half-life is about 5 hours for most people. It is near 3 hours if you clear it fast, and up to 8 hours if you clear it slowly. Half of a 3 pm coffee is still in you at 8 pm.
The app models that curve and shows your last chance for coffee each day. Find your own cut-off with the caffeine cut-off calculator.
Do beer and wine count as water intake?
Partly, and the factor differs per drink. In the trial behind these numbers, a 4% lager finished level with still water, so beer counts 1.00. A pint is mostly water, and the volume covers the alcohol. Wine counts 0.50 and spirits count 0.00, because the same alcohol arrives in far less liquid.
Every drink lists its own factor in the drink guide.
Does WaterChamp work with Apple Health and Health Connect?
Yes. The app writes your water and caffeine to Apple Health on iPhone, and to Health Connect on Android. The app writes alcohol to Apple Health only, because Health Connect has no alcohol record type.
It also reads your workouts and sleep. Your goal rises by a millilitre per calorie you burn, and your hydration drops more slowly overnight.
Is WaterChamp free?
Yes, the app is free to download and use. Logging any of the 62 drinks, your daily goal, today's progress and the widgets cost nothing.
A Pro subscription adds the calendar and the full history, the caffeine and alcohol charts, and your own custom drinks.
Does WaterChamp have widgets and an Apple Watch app?
The app has home screen and lock screen widgets in both sizes. They show today's progress, so you can check it without opening the app.
The Apple Watch app is planned after launch.
